JOHN D. HALAMKA NAMED TO SAFEMED BOARD OF DIRECTORS

San Diego, CA – February 11, 2008 – SafeMed, a provider of analytical software for personalized health answers, today announced the appointment of John D. Halamka, M.D., M.S., chief information officer (CIO) of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), to the SafeMed Board of Directors. In his role as CIO, Halamka is responsible for all clinical, financial, administrative and academic information technology serving 3,000 doctors, 12,000 employees and one million patients at BIDMC.

Halamka also serves as the Chair of the U.S. Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), Chairman of the New England Health Electronic Data Interchange Network (NEHEN) and CIO of Harvard Medical School, where he is on the faculty as an associate professor of emergency medicine. His technology research focuses on security and confidentiality issues, scalability issues, and implementation of standards for exchange of administrative and clinical information, to improve patient care.
